Geoff Fry

Geoff Fry is running as an independent candidate and has 50 years in the finance industry to back him. He is a self-identified keen motorsports enthusiast and interested in preserving the unique history and heritage buildings of Bathurst.

“I see that this [a financial background] is lacking in the current council,” he told Bathurst Election Coverage.

Geoff Fry summed up his overall view on council and candidates, suggesting his stance as an independent candidate did not influence his beliefs on council standards.

“I was surprised, irrespective of who they [bathurst council] are, the community seems to want to change, they want to move forward,” he said, “that as long as they’ve got good people there moving forward, that’s what it’s all about. I’m not gonna say I’m aligned with anyone in particular at all, I would like to see some good candidates come forward for the betterment of bathurst.”

Heritage, water conservation, as well as infrastructure are important policy stances Mr Fry has publicly taken.

The Bathurst Integrated Medical centre is a topic that Geoff Fry has focused on, submitting opinion articles and sharing Facebook posts about the topic.

“I don’t know of any development which has not provided its own parking or additional free parking,” he said in a Facebook post, “council parking report of 2015 states that we have lost 250 permanent parking spaces.”

“Bathurst is growing and will continue to grow however infrastructure should be provided and growth should be sustainable. This is evident by the lack of planning and funding for Hereford street and an additional river crossing,” he concluded.
