Bio
Current Mayor of Bathurst, Ian North, will be running with an independent ticket. He is waiting for the nominations to officially identify the other candidates running on his ticket. He told Bathurst Election Coverage his ticket is a mixture of men and women, and spans from people who are 70 years old to the youngest member of his ticket being 20 years old.
“I’m very much about having a broad reflection of people and ideas,” he said, “and that helps in what people are looking for.”
He said the ticket itself does not hold a specific area of interest; only the improvement of Bathurst overall.
“I don’t particularly target anything except the continual growth of Bathurst and it’s people,” he said, “and that’s involved in the, I’ve heard people put it this way, the non-sexy things: [those] being roads, infrastructure, waste management centres, water.”
“I’m looking for people, and what I’ve always focused on, is being passionate about the community. For the community to grow you’ve got to provide cultural facilities, you’ve got to provide sporting facilities, you’ve got to provide a community that is encouraging businesses not only to come here but current businesses to expand.”
He has served in council for a record 11 terms in roles such as councillor, deputy mayor, and now the top job itself. He told Bathurst Election Coverage that he’s familiar with the intricacies of agreements and disagreements within council.
